Anesthesia

Anesthesia is a medical intervention that uses medicines to prevent pain and loss of feeling during procedures like surgery, dental work, and diagnostic tests. Our Anesthesiologists doctors are trained to administer anesthetics, which are the medicines used for anesthesia.

Some of our anesthetics can be administered in a number of ways, including:

• Inhalation: A gas that the patient breathes through a mask
• Intravenous injection: A needle is inserted into a vein to give direct access to the bloodstream
• Catheter: A thin tube is inserted into the space around peripheral nerves or outside of the spinal cord
• Injection: A needle and syringe are used to inject the anesthetic into a body part
• Topical lotion or spray: The anesthetic is applied topically
• Eye drops: The anesthetic is administered in the form of eye drops
• Skin patch: The anesthetic is applied in the form of a skin patch.
